Senior Consultant Development PaediatricianDr. Praveen Suman Mehta

Dr. Praveen is an eminent development pediatrician, has received training in developmental-behavioral pediatrics and focuses specifically on child development disorders and disabilities She has conducted numerous workshops on ‘Poor school performance’, ‘follow up of high risk babies’ and ‘Autism’. Dr. Praveen has expertise in the medical and neurodevelopment assessment of the patients with developmental problems and plans the therapies required for the management of the patients. Dr. Praveen sits in the advisory board of many social and medical organizations and is the Director of Child Development Clinic which is a multidisciplinary clinic involved in the management of children with special needs like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, slow learners, Down’s syndrome etc She is also the president of sarthi support society (NGO) and on the expert panel of synapse parenting magazine.

Dr. Praveen is trained in developmental pediatrics at Robert Warner Rehabilitation Centre, at Buffalo Children Hospital, Affiliated to Buffalo University, New York. Dr. Praveen is presently serving as consultant developmental pediatrician and in charge of developmental clinic in Centre for Child Health at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. She has been working as consultant pediatrician at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for the last 15 years Dr. Praveen has several research papers to her credit.

Research Activities

  • Passed out MD in 1996 since then working exclusively for the betterment of children with special needs, founded child development clinic in 1999 where personels from varied speciality like psychologist,special educator ,occupational therapist and speech therapist  were trained to manage children  with disability, so that these children can get complete help under one roof. started an NGO sarthi support group along with the parents of special need children so that underprivileged children can get the services in 2003.

  • A school was started for special need children . as there was not much literature in the field of developmental disorders in India is available,started working in the field of research along with INCLEN Group.That time she realized  Indian standardized tools  to be used for assessing children with special needs specially autism , adhd were not available, in collaboration with INCLEN GROUP of doctors made inclen ASD and Inclen ADHD tools , which are now the gold standard for the Indian population. National Indian academy of pediatrics awarded her with fellowship in development and behavior pediatrics.

  • Training modules for the training of professionals and parents were made and conducted successfully. First and only Centre to start a fellowship program for pediatrician in the field of development and behavior pediatrics in North India.so that more trained doctors are available to treat children who not developing typically.
  • With the aim to reach out to as many as possible patients in periphery and rural area, started collaborating with other pediatricians and trained professionals so that development services like occupational therapy, behavior modification and speech therapy for children with cerebral palsy, slow learner and autism is available at their doorstep.
    In last 20 years of spending time with these little angels, she has treated appox 6000 autism, 4ooo cerebral palsy and intellectually disabled children and helped them to achieve their potential.
  • To reduce the burden of disability in society ,it is important to prevent /early identification to be done. To fulfill this aim early intervention and stimulation of all the premature and high risk babies was started under the high risk baby program .where mothers are taught the activites and therapies ,it has significantly reduced the burden of cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

  • To provide emotional and psychological support to the parents of children with special need were created for the first time. Where parents can interact with other parent of the same disorder can share their journey and experiences .This had a significant impact on the well being of the parents and family as a whole.
